Special Report: Marriage Equality Reaches The Supreme Court

HearThePeopleSing On Tuesday, March 26, 2013,  the United States Supreme Court heard arguments for and against the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8.  There are a variety of issues at hand and several possible outcomes.  The Justices questioned attorneys representing both sides of the issue.  The wide range of questions included many about the legal standing the pro Prop 8 parties have.  No one really knows how the Court will rule, but a decision will issued by June.

Today, March 27, 2013, the United States Supreme Court heard arguments for and against the constitutionality of paragraph 3 of the Federal Defense of Marriage Act.  The cases involved in this matter have less to do with the fundamental right to marry as they do with the entitlement of legally married same-sex couples to the same federal benefits afforded to straight couples.
