October 12, 2018 marks 20 years since Matthew Shepard died from wounds he sustained during a vicious hate crime in Laramie, Wyoming. His parents were never able to lay him to rest out of fear his grave site would be vandalized. This year the Shepard’s were invited to lay Matthew to rest in the safety of the National Cathedral in Washington D.C..
On Friday, October 26, 2018, an interment service was held at the National Cathedral. An audience of 2000 people, including Matthew’s family, was lead by Bishop Gene Robinson and others in a service that brought Matthew’s remains to their final resting place.
It was a touching, powerful, and emotional service and this month we share the music and some of the powerful moments from the service.
